The DaVinciSpace

This is a small overview about my DaVinciSpace a.k.a. Makerspace a.k.a. workshop:

Located as a small room under the garage, it needs to host everything what is necessary to do all the things described here (except the bicycle- / motorcycle- / car-section that is located in the garage itself): In fact, it’s a true maker’s living-room!

The main work area has of course a PC, as more and more things involve some preparation / crafting on software level. Beside that, there is stuff for electronics: An old Hameg HM207 oscilloscope, a new digital 2-channel Hantek DSO5102B, function generators, labor power supplies, multimeters, drills, soldering-station and various soldering irons.

On the other side, there is another table and … parts! As you need a plethora of electronic and mechanical parts as well as small mechanic parts (e.g. screws, nuts, washers ….). Typically, you don’t buy them exactly piece by piece for your project, but in bulk, as this is much cheaper. Many things you can get from sources as Aliexpress, Banggood, ebay and sometimes Amazon; it always depends on the trade off between costs and how soon you need them.

Partz, partz, partz!

Turning to the left, there is the area with the 3D-Printers (and again, yet another older high-end 2-channel oscilloscope, a Philips PM3250):

The small one is a Turnigy Fabricator II mini, having a build volume of 10x10x10 cm (and even a -halfway- heated print bed): Fine and suitable for smaller prints (that get a good quality if tweaking the settings carefully); as being capable to print from memory-card, this small printer even can be taken to the desk in a warm room for printing. Used for PLA, PETG and ABS.

But besides, here is the “big beast”, a Tevo Tarantula (=a Chinese Prusa i3 clone kit) that has a build volume of 20x20x25 cm, a really good heated print bed (on 120°C, be careful with your fingers) and therefore of course being capable to print PLA, PETG and ABS. As this printer is bigger and shall be able to print as well in winter when the workshop is cold, i’ve put it in an ancient cupboard, stuffed with lighting and a microprocessor controlled heating (guess where the microprocessor-control comes from).

All the gray, blue and green special parts as well had been 3D-printed: So in fact the small Fabricator mini did bootstrap the Tarantula!

Finally, to the right of the main work area, there is the latest asset of the workshop:
A CNC1610 CNC-router / -mill usable for engraving, but mainly used for PCB-milling so that the electronic designs get an easy-to-use basis to build upon. It has a work area of 16×10 cm; again, some special supplementary parts have been 3D-printed (the black ones in this case).

That’s it so far, and besides of these highlights, there of course are as well the other (boring) conventional tools required for any serious project…
